ELARA BRANDS: PROTECTING PEOPLE AND FEEDING FAMILIES DURING THE PANDEMIC.

“Protection with Purpose.” That’s Elara’s tagline, and in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, its meaning is more important than ever.

Elara is uniquely positioned to not only help protect people from the virus, but also help provide relief to people facing hunger due to the economic downturn caused by the outbreak.

As a leading producer of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)—mainly disposable gloves— Elara’s products are central in fighting the spread of the coronavirus.

And with the social mission of fighting hunger in our DNA, Elara donates a meal for each case we sell, helping food banks meet skyrocketing demand for food assistance.

We are surrounded by many challenges, but we are not without hope. Elara Brands knows that we can reduce the spread of COVID-19 and provide for our neighbors in need. We just need to get the right resources where they are most needed—and companies like yours can join the fight too.

Protecting People

Elara Brands produces a wide range of personal protective equipment (PPE)—including gloves, bags, apparel—that can help employees and customers stay safe and healthy.

Single-use gloves are an effective barrier against germs that cause infections and can remind people to avoid touching their faces to avoid transmission. Gloves are made from a variety of materials – from loose fitting plastic gloves to extra-durable nitrile gloves.

As businesses take additional steps to safeguard their employees and customers, demand for gloves is increasing dramatically, and not only in hospitals. For example, before COVID-19, gloves were mainly used in restaurants by cooks. Now, gloves will be worn by servers, bartenders, busboys and delivery drivers.

The increased attention to hygiene is driving consumers to use gloves as well. People are concerned about bringing germs home from the grocery store and infecting their families.

The widespread use of disposable gloves is quickly becoming the “new normal.”

Feeding Families

Nearly 100 percent of food banks nationwide are serving more people during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, the number of children struggling with hunger in America could escalate to 18 million—more than ever reported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Families that have never visited a food pantry before simply can’t make ends meet. Thankfully, the Feeding America nationwide network of food banks is providing food and hope in every community nationwide.

Island Harvest, a member of the Feeding America network, is meeting the increasing need for meals on Long Island where Elara Brands is headquartered. Since the outbreak began, the food bank has needed to purchase 12 times more food than normal to support their community.

At a recent food distribution featured in Newsday, community members like Maria Cortes shared that they have previously donated to Island Harvest but now needed help getting by.

For Maria and her husband, this is a particularly painful time. They are not only out of work—they are also mourning the recent passing of her father due to COVID-19.

It may be a long time before people across our country just like Maria feel like they’re making progress on the road to recovery. However, Elara Brands is helping them get the nourishment they need to recover.

Through our One Case • One Meal program and our partnership with Feeding America, for every case of Elara products you buy, Elara donates a meal to a person struggling with hunger.
Feeding America is the nation’s largest hunger relief organization with 200 member food banks serving 60,000 food pantries and meal programs.

To date, Elara has helped to provide over 4 million meals. Check out our Fighting Hunger page to learn more.

Moving Forward Together

When Elara Brands was founded, we could not have imagined that a health crisis and a hunger crisis of this magnitude would happen at the same time. With the support of customers like you, Elara is battling on both fronts, providing critical protective products to fight the disease, and helping to provide meals for our neighbors in need.

After all, it’s only by working together that we can protect our neighborhoods and improve our society so it’s better for everyone. That’s true now more than ever—when the actions of each individual are so important to reduce the spread of infection and keep our communities strong.
